National FaMEALy Day

Under the Presidential Proclamation 1895 issued last September 30, 2009, the Filipino Family Day will be commemorated every 4th Monday of September. This year's National FaMEALy Day is today, September 26, 2011. Cancel all your appointments and eat dinner with the family!

It is every Filipino family tradition to eat dinner together. This is the time when family members sit around the same table, eat the same food and listen to one another. Unfortunately, this family ritual is  fading away because of all kinds of social, economic, and technological factors such as both parents working, longer commutes, and the children shuttling between school and after-school activities  e.g. sports or choir practices, attached to their TV or gadgets at home or hanged outside with peers. Family members are left to eat at their own time, with no routine, with no rules. Parents should realize that spending time with their children during mealtimes is vital to their family's well-being. It will not only improve communication among family members but it can also help overseeing their children's growth.

Bretzie stars as Romeo and Juliet

Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition 2010 housemates Bret Jackson and Fretzie Bercede will cast as star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet, a stage production on September 24 at Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex, 11 AM and 6 PM.

Forbidden love is the best kind of love.” ~Bret Jackson II

Such passionate words coming from a young man who is so full of life, and madly in love with his on and off-cam leading lady (Fretzie Bercede). Neither of them knowing that a year after they first met, they would play the lead roles of the ultimate love story. Was it destiny? Perhaps…

The tale of Romeo and Juliet and the struggles they had to face closely resembles that of BRETZIE‘s love story… both met at a gathering, and at a time where the leading lady was already paired with someone else. Yet somehow, our protagonists manage to find ways to make it work. They found their strengths in each other, and together faced the world… against all odds.

Another Filipina made a historical attempt in getting the most prestigious Miss Universe crown at Sao Paulo, Brazil last Monday night (Tuesday morning in RP). Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup bagged the 3rd runner-up place in the world largest beauty pageant.

Kudos to Shamcey for ranking higher than her predecessor Ma. Venus Raj, Binibining Pilipinas 2010 representative placing only 4th runner up.

Although it was not a major major response, Shamcey did answer the question intelligently. Asked by American actress Vivica A. Fox, the question was "Would you change your religious beliefs to marry the person you love? Why or why not?"
